About US School Calendar

US School Calendar is a free reference resource providing school year calendars for all 50 US states. Our goal is to make it easy for parents, students, teachers, and school staff to find important school year dates including the first day of school, last day, holidays, winter break, and spring break.

The United States does not have a single national school calendar. Each state sets its own guidelines, and individual school districts often have their own specific dates within those guidelines. We aggregate this information to give you a convenient starting point.

All dates on this site are approximate and based on publicly available information from state education departments and official school district calendars. Always verify dates with your local school district, as they may differ from the general state calendar.

Data Sources

Calendar data is sourced from official state education department websites and major school district calendars. Each state page includes a link to the official source. Data has been cross-referenced with district-level calendars for accuracy and is updated regularly.

Editorial Process

We use public education agency and school district calendars as primary references, then summarize common statewide patterns in plain language. Because school calendars are often set locally, every state page reminds readers to confirm final dates with their local district before making plans.

When corrections are reported, we review the submitted source, update the affected page when the change is supported by an official calendar, and keep source links visible for readers who want to verify details directly.

How We Verify Dates

Our review starts with official public sources such as state education departments, district calendar pages, board-approved academic calendars, and published school-year PDFs. We then compare those dates with the patterns shown across state pages, topic pages, and planning guides so readers can see both the statewide context and the need for local district confirmation.

Pages that summarize all states, such as our source tracker and comparison guide, are designed to help families move from broad planning to official verification. We do not present this site as a replacement for a district calendar, and we avoid changing dates unless an official source supports the update.

Correction Policy

If a reader finds an outdated date, broken source link, or missing district note, we ask them to send the official URL and a short description of the issue. We prioritize corrections that affect first day, last day, winter break, spring break, Thanksgiving recess, teacher workdays, and emergency make-up days.

Independent Resource Notice

US School Calendar is an independent planning resource. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any state education department, school district, or government agency. Official district and agency pages remain the final authority for enrollment, attendance, closure, and calendar decisions.
